Melissa | THIS IS ME
Tell me your story!
Omg… I just moved to Wellington, FL this past June, about a year after my boyfriend passed away. That is a story in itself…I did boudoir / glamour / branding sessions in Pittsburgh, PA. I find the sessions therapeutic. My story is so long… Aside from my boyfriend passing away, 2 failed marriages, a mother of one son, and also a grandmother who has always stood on her own two feet while having thyroid disease to boot. Moving from PA to FL on a whim and prayer was by far the bravest thing I have ever done, but I needed a fresh start.
What do you remember learning about beauty from a young age?
It comes from within and beauty is so underestimated every day. It comes from actions, words of kindness, and quiet understanding. The physical aspect comes from dressing your best and taking care of yourself every day.
What sort of women would you like to see in magazines?
All women, but mostly with real stories. I find human beings intriguing because I am so awkward, shy, strange…even though I hide it so well in my professional life.
What’s one moment in your life you felt the most proud of yourself?
Recently, my employer looked at my resume and test scores. Out of 300 applicants, he said mine was best of all because of how it was written. I have worked hard my whole life without a college degree to make my resume what it is. I replied to him that I was very proud of it. For the 1st time in my life, I was proud of my accomplishments, and not apologetic about it.
Why are photos important for you right now?
My Nicholas and I were only together for a year before he died and there were nowhere near enough photos of our memories…. I look at prior photos of myself from before and remember what a beautiful badass I felt like….and I feel like I’ve lost her.
Melissa, it takes resilience and courage to move to another state on your own while seeking a fresh start in the midst of grief. You are on your own journey of healing right now. I certainly see the badass in your photos and loved capturing her. I am proud to have you featured in the This is Me Series and know your story will inspire others in their own lives!
