Katie | THIS IS ME

Tell me your story!

“I’m Colombian – American. I’ve been able to appreciate different perspectives in life. I’ve moved around for quite a bit and I’m always open to new experiences. I’ve been back to the States for a few years now and I’m taking in everything I can from life.”

What do you remember learning about beauty from a young age?

“That more than looks, beauty is about inner light and that it reflects outwards, not the other way around.”

What sort of women would you like to see in magazines?

“Honest, genuine and strong women. Women ‘rough around the edges’. Women of passion and grace.”

What is your favorite physical feature about yourself?

“My legs”

What’s your favorite thing about your personality?

“My vulnerability”

What’s one moment in your life you felt the most proud of yourself?

“When I realized I wasn’t weak for being… Well for being weird. That the thoughts I have in my head were as valid as everyone else’s, and my actions should be the ones that speak for my logic even when it didn’t make sense to the rest.”

Is there any advice you would like to share with others who struggle to see their own beauty?

“We all struggle to see our own beauty. Beauty is a state of mind. And even in sadness, beauty is present.”

Why are photos important for you right now?

“Because I no longer take pictures. I have lost interest and, honestly, can’t really hold a phone for long, so the taking pictures process has become annoying. I have lost interest because of memories. I believe photos should carry a message, a memory and we have come to a point where the photo became more important than the memory it should represent. We live in a world where we spend more time fixing ourselves up for the camera than contemplating the bigger picture.”
